Foundation for Ecological Security (FES) works towards the ecological restoration and conservation of land and water resources in ecologically fragile and degraded regions of the country through the concerted and collective action of rural communities. FES's work with land, water and people is governed by a deep appreciation of inter relationships – inter relationships between natural and human systems, different ecosystems within a landscape and different elements within an ecosystem. By valuing these interlinkages, FES attempts to catalyze collective action, access economic opportunity and ensure the resilience of both, rural endeavour and natural endowments.

SaciWATERs is a private, not-for-profit policy research organisation working at a south Asia level. It is committed to bringing about structural changes in the dominant water resources management paradigm in South Asia. Within this ambit, the focus is on transforming water resources knowledge systems. The key ideas are an interdisciplinary approach to understanding water resources issues from a pro-poor, gender sensitive and human development perspective with emphasis on exchange, interaction and regional collaboration at the South Asia level.

Keeping in line with the tradition of the NIRD in organizing Annual Melas, the Rural Technology Park (RTP), NIRD is organizing a “Rural Technology Mela” for four days from February 25 to 28, 2012. A large number of rural technologies, products developed by various technology developers will be displayed in the Mela. There will be about 200 stalls for displaying various rural technologies and rural products from all over the country. It is expected that a large number of technology developers, technology users, technology institutions, Universities, scientific and research organizations, Public Sector Undertakings, Departments, Self Help Groups (SHGs) from states, namely, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and many other parts of the country are expected to participate in the Mela.

A total of 1800 children  from all the nine blocks of Kanyakumari district from 6th to 10th standard were examined using type III examination. Dental fluorosis was present 15.8% of the study population and varied from as low as 1.4% to as high as 29.4% in different areas. There was a significant difference in dental fluorosis levels between rural and urban residents.
