Description:
Water needs in India have increased on an unmatched scale over the years. The demand for water has outpaced its supply. Several research studies point out that the problem of scarcity of drinking water is not due to its shortage, but due to the absence of principles of water governance, proper mechanism for conservation, efficient distribution and effective use and management of the vital resource. Therefore, effective governance and management of water would go a long way in dealing with water “scarcity.” The proposed seminar is being organised to deliberate on the issues concerning availability, accessibility and reliability of the supply of drinking water to the people.
Objectives:
The Seminar proposes to:
- Analyse the present crisis of drinking water supply
- Discuss public policy on governance and management of water
- Have a critical look at the institutional structures and functioning of governance and management of water
- Examine problems pertaining to management of water
- Highlight global perspectives and practices in the governance and management of water, with special attention to Asia
- Discuss the regulatory issues in water management
- Find viable solutions to the existing problems in governance and management of water supply

- Issues in water governance: urban; rural
- Integrated water resource management
- Climate change and water resource availability
- Rain water harvesting and recycling waste water
- Role of government and other non-state actors in water governance and management
- Issues between centre and states relating to water governance
- Privatisation and corporatisation of water resources
- International policies, practices, regulatory structures and advancements in water
- Role of science and technology
- Research in water management and funding of research projects
Registration Fee:
The usual requirement of registration fee for participation for the proposed national seminar is schedule as follows:
Students and Research scholars: Rs. 500
Faculty Members and Academicians: Rs. 1000
Institutionally sponsored experts: Rs. 2000
Please send the required registration fees by January 25, 2012 by a demand draft in the name of Institute of Public Enterprise payable at Hyderabad. You may also pay the registration fees on the first day of the seminar.
Please note that paper presentation is not necessary to attend and participate in the seminar.
