Rural Development Institute (RDI) was established in order to carry out various programs related to the alleviation of poverty particularly through issues related to land. Its goals are to provide secure land rights to the poor. Its theory of change incorporates field research in order to inform and assist in policy, legislation and implementation of schemes and projects related to land and the poor. It works in support of the national and state government offices that are responsible for the implementation of these programs.

Posted on 27 Aug, 2011 06:35 PMThis case study in National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources (NISCAIR) by the Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CIMFR), Dhanbad and the Geo-Environment Division (Environment Management Group) deals with groundwater quality assessment of Jharia coalfield area of West Bengal. The physiochemical characteristics of groundwater of the upper catchments of the coalfield were studied to evaluate the water quality.

Land subsidence is an environmental hazard which is caused by overdraft of groundwater or oil extraction and results in gradual settling or sudden sinking of the earth’s surface owing to subsurface movement of the materials of the earth.
