Rural Development Institute (RDI) was established in order to carry out various programs related to the alleviation of poverty particularly through issues related to land. Its goals are to provide secure land rights to the poor. Its theory of change incorporates field research in order to inform and assist in policy, legislation and implementation of schemes and projects related to land and the poor. It works in support of the national and state government offices that are responsible for the implementation of these programs.

Job description:  Livelihoods Promotion Officer  

In-country position for an international project to help poor, rural families obtain secure land rights (Project) and effectively use the land resource for the purpose of improving their livelihoods. The Livelihoods Promotion Officer will be responsible for developing, managing and contributing to livelihood support plan for program beneficiaries primarily by facilitating and linking government livelihood supports and in accordance with the organizational direction.

Location: Coochbehar, Bankura and other districts of West Bengal.

Qualifications:
Advanced degree or equivalent in relevant field (Rural Development, Rural Management, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry) from an accredited university.      

Experience:  
The Livelihood promotion Officer should have experience with most of the following:

  • Significant experience with designing, promoting and managing implementation of livelihoods strategies in rural areas, especially for small portions of land, kitchen gardens, small livestock rearing  
  • Understanding and exposure to rural Bengal  
  • Experience of working with women, rural landless / small farmer groups  
  • Experience of project and program management, including at the field level;  
  • Knowledge about latest developments in the livelihoods sector  
  • Strong capacity building and facilitation skills especially government’s livelihood outreach departments  
  • Good report writing and proposal writing skills.

Work Habits: Include but are not limited to accuracy, efficiency, thoroughness, regularity, timeliness, neatness, orderliness and punctuality. A strong drive for result in work and personal performance is required.

Language: Fluency in written and spoken English and Bengali essential. 

Software Skills:  Ability to use proficiently Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and other software.
