This presentation by Arghyam deals with filters used in a rainwater harvesting system as also in other sources to remove suspended pollutants from rainwater collected. In a rainwater harvesting system, the water comes in contact with several surfaces, such as the roof or gutters. Water sources too are contaminated by various minerals and chemicals. These affect the colour, odour, taste and composition of water.Its flow becomes possibly mixed with leaves or dust.

ATREE invites applications for faculty positions in the broad theme of Environment and Development, specifically in areas of Land and Water Resources, Forests and Livelihoods, Energy and Climate Change.

Qualifications: Candidates must be dynamic and highly motivated scholars, Ph.D. with one or more years of post-doctoral experience, with a strong track record of academically rigorous but socially relevant research in the areas indicated above. They could be trained in any branch of the social sciences or of the natural/ physical/ engineering sciences, or both. Applicants must have a strong interest in applied research, working in multi-disciplinary teams, and teaching on environmental issues.

Interested and qualified candidates should submit detailed curriculum vitae, list of publications, copies of key publications, names and contact information of three references, and an outline of proposed future research. Please use 'Faculty position in E&D' in the subject head of your e-mail. There is no separate application form. The deadline for receiving applications is September 15, 2009.

The workshop is meant for Research Scholars and Master students. The age of the participant be less than 30 as of 30 August 2009 (no registration and accommodation charges for selected young researchers).

Interested applicant should send a write-up (less than 750 words each) on “Need and challenges of wetland Monitoring and Management in India” and “How wetland monitoring workshop would benefit their career” (One page on each title). Application and write-up is to be routed through their institution. Selected outstation candidates will be paid Rs 500/- as their travel support and accommodation and food during the workshop will be taken care by the organizers.
