Kerala Government has became the first state government in India to establish an Energy Management Centre (EMC) at the state level, aiming primarily to remould and instrumentalise energy sector as a catalyst in promoting a development process which is economically and ecologically sustainable.

In its efforts to encourage energy conservation activities in the state, Government of Kerala has instituted the energy conservation awards. The Energy Management Centre operates this scheme.
Applications are invited for the award pertaining to the financial year 2010 – 2011 (Award 2011) in sixteen different categories. Award winners in the large-medium scale consumer category as well as media category will receive the award and the citation.
Award winners in the category of Small Scale Energy Consumers, Non Profit Organisations, Research and Innovation, Individual Buildings and Manufacturers of Energy Efficient Equipments will receive the award and a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/- and the winners in the categories of Energy Efficient and Eco-friendly Building Designer/Developer, Energy Clinic Volunteers, Fleet Operators, Certified Energy Auditors/ Energy Managers, Schools, Colleges and Best Suggestion of Energy Conservation/Energy Efficiency will receive the award and a cash prize of Rs. 5000/-.
Awards will be given away at a public function on December 14, 2011, the National Energy Conservation Day.
Application form can be obtained in person or by post from the Energy Management Centre, Sreekrishna Nagar, Sreekariyam P.O., Thiruvananthapuram. Category for which the application form is required must be clearly indicated.
