Funds are released to the States under National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) by the Government of India for providing drinking water supply in rural areas covering the rural and tribal areas of the State.

About 30% of rural household’s access piped drinking water from taps. However, full coverage of rural habitations is about 75%.For effective coverage of habitations with safe drinking water in rural areas, from 2009-10 onwards States are required to prepare Annual Action Plans (AAP) after discussion with the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Rural Development. Implementation of the AAP is monitored through the departmental online Integrated Management Information System (IMIS). Further, officers of the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation regularly review the progress of the implementation of the Programme by the States through meetings, video-conferences and visits to the States.

A statement showing the State-wise details of allocation, release and utilization of funds during the last three years is given here.
