Water not potable and has high levels of TDS in Salem,TN - How to treat and purify the water? Will rainwater harvesting help

Dear Madam / Sir

Greetings !

I am Thiagarajan, Working as School Teacher at Salem, Tamil Nadu, India. Since I wanted to buy and construct home at Salem, I have tested the water at the selected plots [ Kitchipalayam Area , Near Old bus Stand, Salem , Tamil Nadu ]. As per the report the water is not portable.  Here by I have attached the report.

Kindly consider the following

#  The yield of water is not so voluminous, it is normal # There was a “corporation waste dump area” in that neighborhood [ 1 k.m away ] but it was stopped 10 years ago.

# There is a lake at 1 k.m. distance [ also polluted ] # Since the TDS is very high, seems, the cost of water treatment will be Re.1 per ltr, with annual maintance of Rs. 15000/- [ as per the local water treatment solution provider ]

Kindly clarify the following

1) Is it possible to treat and use the water ?

2) Whether Rain Water Harvesting will improve the quality ?

3)  is there any other method to purify the water ?

Kindly help me to take a better decision Thanking you

Thiagu
