Want to install a filter for borewell water stored in over-head tank- Also need suggestions on rainwater harvesting in Mangalore

I'm in Mangalore. I would like to have one cost effective water filter for bore-well water that is stored in an over-head tank. Also, I would like to do rain water harvesting at my place. Please suggest how to proceed.
