Hi,
We are an apartment of 8 flats in Kaggadaspura, Bangalore (Near a contaminated Lake). We use borewell water for non-drinking purposes, and we have noticed that sometimes water comes out black in colour dissolved with black sediments, from the bathroom and kitchen pipes. Home Appliances and bathroom fittings are getting damaged because of the limescales that get accumulated over a period of time. Hence we did a chemical test recently (see report below) to see if it's potable or not. For drinking purpose we normally buy 20 ltr packaged cans.
The borewell water is stored in the ground level tank and then pumped up to the overhead tank from where it is supplied to each flat. This water is then used in bathrooms and kitchen.
In this respect, I would like to know about the various methods of filtering the water (stored in ground tank) to make it free from hardness and black sediments. We need very basic filtering process, which should be easy to use, economical and safe. Daily requirement for the purified water would be around 4,000 litres and would be used for all purposes other than drinking.
A water quality test results are as follows: (Result mg/Liter Max)
-
- Turbidity : 1.33
- Total Dissolved Solids : 1278.72
- pH : 7.13
- Total Hardness (as CaCo3)) : 404 mg/l
- Calcium (as CA) : 120
- Sodium (as NA) : 62.1
- Potassium (as K) :6.5
- Sulphates (as SO4) : 68.48 ml/l
- Total Alkalinity (as CaCo3) : 410 mg/l
- Chlorides (as Cl) : 255.9 mg/l
- Iron (as Fe): 0.25
- Fluoride (as F): 0.02
- Nitrates (as NO3) : 1.50 mg/l
- Magnesium (as Mg): 25.27
- Physical appearance: Settleable Solids
Kindly consider the test report and our uses as mentioned and do recommend a suitable water purifying system.
Thanks and regards,
Sreejith, Bangalore
