Need help in understanding the issues involved in making ponds in vacant plots in areas in Bangalore and Mysore

Hi,

This might be an elementary question, but is there a quick recipe on how to build a self-managing water body (pond) in private land plots to help catch rainwater and use it for basic irrigation and ground water recharging?

I want to start an initiative (non-profit) to dig small ponds within plots in gated communities for water conservation and management. My thought is to pilot this in empty plots owned by friends in various community layouts in Bangalore/Mysore areas. The typical trends is that the layout developer razes everything to the ground to build roads and sell the plots. After all the plots are sold, very few actually build anything, leaving the whole area barren. Can't we make better use of these areas?

I need help in understanding the issues involved in making ponds (managing mosquitoes, creating greenery around the pond etc.)

My mobile# is 99020-39123.

Thanks, -
