Need feedback on borewell water test report - Nitrates found to be above prescribed levels.is it safe for drinking&cooking?

Hello,

I got a borewell dug in my house in Oct 2011 and this week I got my water tested and here are the results.

  • Calcium - 72
  • Magnesium - 17
  • Sodium - 35
  • Potassium - 11.8
  • Total Iron - 0.37
  • Carbonate - Nil
  • Bicarbonate - 238
  • Chloride - 50
  • Flouride - 0.34
  • Nitrate - 49
  • Sulphate - 35.3
  • TDS - 415
  • Specific Condctance Mhos/cm - 680
  • Total Hardness - 248
  • pH - 6.58

I get to understand from the report that nitrate is above the prescribed levels and the rest of the parameters seem to be ok. Is my understanding correct, and if this water is used occasionally for drinking and cooking are there any consequences?

Regards
