Please forgive the vagueness of this question, I have never been to India however, I am currently a student at university and a team of us are researching water consumption and practices in India as a project to see what changes could be implemented to create a better standard of living in India. After much research we as a team have learned alot about India and the problems with contaminated water, the large companies that draw upon the ground water, rainwater harvesting, aryuveda traditions, and much more.
So the question(s) are:
- If water seems to be not available to many people, exactly how is the water collected and consumed? What type of containers are used? Is it more common for someone to have to walk to a hand pump and transport water home? How is this transported home? If it is sanitized how is it done? Boiling seems to be the option supplied in most research but one source claims that the resources are not always there to boil the water.
- Are there more alternatives besides walking to the water? Such as rainharvesting, bottled water, water filters, building wells etc. What else?
- Is water distributed to households in higher income areas? larger city areas only?
- It seems like the water or collection of water seems poorly regulated, how do you think it could be approved?
We understand that water is one of the most important elements for a healthy lifestyle, and that people die everyday because of poor quality of water and that is tragic. No one should have to suffer for the basic needs of water, food, or shelter that is our belief.
Thanks for any information provided, hopefully we can help make a difference in the life of people who do not have the luxury of water that other parts of the world do.
Please feel free to provide any insight that you might think is relevant on this topic that may not have been asked. We plan to take our research and not only complete it as a project but also potentially get involved in helping companies that we have become aware of that assist developing countires or areas of countries where water is scarce and hard to acquire.
