Documentation request of the G. Ashwatha Narayana report on condition of Krishnarajasagar dam in Karnataka

If anyone has access to the G. Ashwatha Narayana report that studies the condition of Krishnarajasagar dam, can they make it available to India Water Portal ? Some media outlets including the DNA (Daily News and Analysis), Bangalore and Bhaskar (Hindi) have recently had articles regarding the safety of Krisharajasagar (KRS) dam near Mysore. The news reports suggest lack of maintanance of the dam and quote a government report (the Ashwatha Narayana report) which says that greater efforts are needed for investing in maintainance of the dam. The report is quoted as saying that the dam may become a water bomb, which is strong language for a government report. An earlier article by the Hindu newspaper : http://www.hindu.com/2007/08/24/stories/2007082458390500.htm quotes Mr. Ashwatha Narayana indeed expressing grave concern about the conditions of different reservoirs in Karnataka: "Irrigation Secretary G. Aswatha Narayana has said that Krishnaraja Sagar, Hemavathi, Harangi and Kabini reservoirs require urgent major repair works to save them from serious problems such as heavy leakage and seepage owing to erosion of crest gates on account of widespread rusting and jammed gates." "These mistakes, if ignored, would result in heavy damage to the reservoirs and a catastrophe to the people living in the downstream, he said. He likened the condition of these dams to a heart patient, which if not attended to immediately would lead to disastrous consequences." It would be useful to have this report available publicly so that the exact concerns and problems expressed in the report could be analyzed by interested citizens and civil society. If someone has access to this report, we request them to write to us about it at portal@arghyam.org . We would be happy to bear any expenses in procuring the report and making it available as softcopy on India Water Portal.
