Borewell dug and redrilled once in Hastinapuram,Hyderabad, but no water-What steps should I follow to ensure water availability?

Hello everyone,

I admire all the members of the expert panel for helping out individuals who depend on bore water.

I am planning to the start construction of my house in Hastinapuram, LB Nagar, Hyderabad. This area has ground water shortage. As per my knowledge, you might be able to strike water around 300-400 ft depth. But I came to know from my neighbour that the lane in which my plot is situated has enough water. One of the house owners in my lane has struck water at 60 ft. But on the whole, the colony has a major ground water problem.

My aunt stays 100-120 mts away from our lane and their 4' 1/2" 300 ft borewell failed. They could use the borewell hardly for 8 months. On the day of drilling I've noticed the wet soil at 80 ft and then at 120 ft. Between 80 ft and 120 ft rock dust was seen all over and even after 120 ft I noticed dust coming out of well while drilling. After 185 ft, the driller poured water and felt that the well has struck some water and flushed the well. The water was struck at 190 ft and the discharge was negligible, even to be noticed.

The driller didn't guide us whether the water is enough and stopped drilling at 205 ft as it was already 1:30 am. After 2-3 days we have installed the pump and the motor could hardly pump the water for 1 min and that's the end of water. Again after a week or so we had to re-drill the bore to enhance the depth and we have struck enormous water discharge at 290 ft and the drilling was completed at 300 ft as the rig operator could not drill beyond 300ft because of his compressor capacity and the water pressure. Again the borewell got dried up after 8 months. As we have already invested more than 50,000, we have decided to leave it as it is. I've no data on the pump make or water discharge. The casing was done till 45 ft.

I've explained the above case so that it will help the experts to understand the area and the conditions.

  • Now my question is, what steps do I need to follow to ensure that I get enough water. Should I go for 6 inch bore for 4' 1/2 inch? I am planning to drill up to 250 ft - 350 ft depending on when/where the water is struck.
  • How beneficial can the size of borewell affect the water source? As per my knowledge 4' 1/2" rig can drill up to 500 ft and a 6' ft can drill up to 1500-1800 ft.

Please provide some best practices and solutions.

Thanks
