Borewell desilting - Will it damage the borewell and make it un-usable?

Hi,

We have a borewell in our apartment that has been giving us reduced yield.  We consulted with some borewell experts and they mentioned that we should desilt our borewell.  Currently there is water in the borewell and the amount of water that is pumped out is less.

To give you some context.  The borewell is just over a year and half old.  It was providing enough water for our apartment but then the submersible motor was damaged.  The pump person mentioned that the motor got damaged due to the silt in the borewell.  We then repaired and put the pump back.  We were then able to pump water for 6-7 days after which the water has reduced considerably.  This is when we consulted the borewell expert.

So my question to the group is will desilting the borewell destroy the borewell and make it un-usable. This is one advice I have received from another person in the same field.
