This is the second time that our 6" borewell near Thalli is getting choked with roots from a big banyan tree that is about 250 feet away from the mouth of the borewell. The last time the roots were at 40 feet, so we cut it with some special equipment, dug a trench 8 feet deep to severe the main root from the tree. We thought we had fixed the problem. But this time the roots made it hard to retrieve the submersible which stopped working and we found roots wound around the motor at 300ft!!
Are there any solutions to this problem. Most of the 500 feet of the borewell has no casing as it is granite rock with possible fissures/crack through which the roots are growing. But I am surprised that the roots are growing down that deep.
Do we change the pump to a compressed air pump rather than a borewell or periodically clean the borewell. If we do need to clear the borewell periodically, do we need to do it every 6 months or 1 year. Any advise would be appreciated.
