WWF India, one of the country’s largest conservation organizations is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated young individual to be part of its team in the Sustainable Livelihoods and Governance Programme, to work as a Senior Programme Officer on issues related to the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD). The role of the incumbent will be to facilitate and execute the tasks leading to the eleventh Conference of Parties (COP 11), and undertaking activities to assess the impact of the Biodiversity Act and its rules on conservation and rural livelihoods. This will involve extensive secondary literature review, field level consultations and action research to collect and collate data, analyze and assess to develop policy briefs and documents for policy advocacy as well as help WWF’s participation in COP 11.

Location: New Delhi, with extensive travel involved

Job Description:

  • Collate, analyse and carry out an assessment of key COP 10 decisions to look at its effective implementation in India
  • Facilitate the WWF network’s engagement in the CBD process - thisincludes working closely with WWF International and WWF Germany in helpingto synthesize position papers, etc.
  • Engage directly with the Ministry of Environment & Forests in supporting CBD related actions
  • Assist with communications and campaigns around CBD - both national and global
  • Assist in organizing side events during COP 11
  • Facilitate logistics for WWF staff from other countries attending COP 11
  • Represent WWF at meetings/workshops as and when required

Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in either Environmental Sciences/Forestry or Social Science with at least three year’s work experience in the related field
  • Proven experience in Project Management, project coordination and networking, along with the ability to deliver results under tight deadlinesand challenging circumstances
  • Knowledge of key policies that impact conservation, rural livelihoods, environment and development, in particular knowledge about the BD Act and COP processes
  • Willingness to travel and ability to work in field locations, with multiple stakeholders, in particular local government authorities
  • Interest in networking with campaigns, movements, CSOs working on similar issues
  • Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills

Remuneration:
Will be competitive with Indian NGO pay scales and will depend upon candidate’s experience levels and the overall WWF-India salary
structure. WWF-India does not provide housing, telephone or vehicle facilities.
