UNDP calls for submissions to Cartoon Contest on Climate Change – Apply by February 21, 2012

The Human Development Report (HDR) Unit of the Asia-Pacific Regional Centre, UNDP, Bangkok is hosting a cartoon contest on Climate Change and Human Development in Asia-Pacific, in partnership with the Office for Regional Cooperation of the Embassy of France in Thailand.

Objectives:
The objective of the cartoon contest is to support advocacy that bring people to the centre of climate change and human development debates. The contest encourages people from Asia-Pacific developing countries to portray issues of concern related to climate change in the region from a people’s perspective.

The contest aims to encourage people from Asia-Pacific developing countries to portray development issues related to climate change from a people’s perspective. Submissions are invited from the region to contribute to capacity development and advocacy in creative ways to bring people to the centre of climate change and human development debates.

All candidates must submit their cartoon in English or in local language, including—

  • One cartoon per submission, originally executed and hand drawn by the artist, in colour or black and white
  • The size of the cartoon should be on one A4 sized sheet of paper. In case of electronic submissions, artists should retain the original A4 hard copy
  • Resume or contact information
  • Brief motivation for and description of the cartoon in English or local language (please also mention if the cartoon has been reproduced elsewhere).
  • Proof of citizenship (passport, national ID)

If you would like to share an optional short (1-2 pages) written piece on how you and your community is experiencing and facing climate change, please do so.

Each applicant will be required to submit a copy of one original cartoon, which will be judged by an international panel of external experts. Their work will be portrayed at an international exhibition in Bangkok, Thailand in the first half of 2012.

All nationals from United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) countries in Asia-Pacific are invited to participate. The contest carries a financial award for winners in support of their work highlighting people’s concerns on climate change. Winners may be expected to present their work in workshops, seminars, and other events (travel-related costs will be covered separately).
