The Times of India Social Impact Awards in partnership with J.P.Morgan is a platform wherein applications and nominations for Awards can be made by NGO’s, corporates and government organizations under five categories (Health, Education, Environment, Livelihood, and Empowerment & Advocacy).
Creation of more livelihood opportunities – both, by creating jobs and also by augmenting incomes – thus becomes a crucial task for the economic advance of the country as a whole because limited buying power in the hands of masses implies a stagnating demand for products, with all its attendant consequences.
NGOs have tried to bridge the gap between opportunities and demand for jobs in various ways. These include setting up group enterprises for producing commodities based on either traditional skills (like handicrafts) or local produce (like processed foods). A wide array of interventions in agriculture too have been undertaken – better inputs, sustainable agricultural practices, diversification of crops, etc. Very often, changes in livelihood patterns have to be integrated with changes in education (skill development), environmental interventions (watershed development), and community or group based interventions.
If you belong to such a group working for creation of jobs or increase in incomes, you can apply for this award.
