About NAPM
National Alliance of People’s Movements (NAPM) is an alliance of more than 250 grass root people’s struggles in India working on a range of issues related to socio – economic – political - justice and equity. Members affiliated with us are engaged in struggles around the issues of development, displacement, urban and rural planning, environmental concerns, human rights violations, livelihood rights, labour concerns, indiscriminate industrialization, corporate accountability, corruption, governance, electoral reforms and transparency.
Internships and Volunteer opportunities are available at our national office Delhi and regional offices in Hyderabad, Bhubaneshwar, Patna, Mumbai, Pune, Vadodara, Surat, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Bangalore and also with specific movements across the country.
1) Research, publications and documentation associate (Two)
Duration : 2 – 6 months, can be extended - Work related expenses covered
NAPM is looking for two associates to assist with research to support our ongoing struggles for land rights; forests rights; water rights; housing rights; campaigns around mega projects, like Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC); and campaign for electoral reforms. The research team will provide crucial support to back up our campaigns against corruption, injustices, rights violation and strengthen our effort for significant policy changes in the age old Land Acquisition Act and other laws. Associates will also assist our efforts towards enactment of a development planning act and preparation of an alternative people's budget.
Responsibilities
- Keep close watch on the developments around key Acts, policy developments and concerned nodal ministries
- Assist in information gathering from various sources including by filing of RTI applications
- Draft statements on policy pronouncements drawing upon the experience of movements from all over the country and feed them to communication team for further follow up with press.
- Prepare research notes, policy briefs, concept papers, reports
- Assist in publication of Newsletters, Magazines, and other publications of NAPM
- Travel to meetings, conventions and assist in report writing and documentation
Desired qualification
- An ideal person must have commitment to agenda of social justice and agreement with the mission of NAPM.
- S/he may have a background in social sciences with some research experience, knowledge/aptitude for legal work, written and spoken fluency in English and/or Hindi, ability to work independently and willing to travel to visit partner organizations or conduct site visits, attend meetings as and when required.
2) Organisational, campaign and outreach associate (Two)
Duration : 2 – 6 months - Work related expenses covered
NAPM is looking for two associates to assist with its organisation building, campaign and outreach programmes. NAPM has its 250 members spread over different states in the country engaged in movements for justice, equity and democratic rights. associates will assist in regular interaction with member organisations, assessing and responding to their campaigns, interaction with the government agencies and commissions, follow up cases and so on.
They will also assist the ongoing struggles and campaigns for land rights; forests rights; water rights; housing rights; campaigns around mega projects, like Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC); and campaign for electoral reforms. They will contribute to the alliance building process and help in reach out of NAPM's philosophy to various cross sections of society using a variety of communications and media tools.
Responsibilities
- Assist in expansion of the membership of the NAPM in different states and maintain an exhaustive database of the constituents, supporters, media channels etc.
- Regularly interact with the member groups, assist their needs and organise for support at the national levels.
- Assist prominent movement leaders of NAPM in their day to day work and provide secretarial assistance.
- Assist in inking up the general supporters in academics, NGOs etc. with NAPM on important issues and mobilisations
- Keep regular touch with conveners and provide support in planning of the various events, immediate, short term and long term.
- Some administrative and logistical tasks and help in organising programmes and events
- Help and provide support in coordinating the fact-finding teams from Delhi, drawing upon members from all over the country and then provide vital support to local and regional struggles

3) Media and communications associate (One)
Duration : 2 – 6 months - Work related expenses covered
NAPM is looking for one media and communications intern at its national office in Delhi to assist in its media advocacy and wider communications work. A major part of NAPM's work involves communicating the strength and philosophy of struggles to the wider world.
Responsibilities
- Keep watch on the media coverage of NAPM constituents and different issues and maintain an exhaustive database of media organisations.
- Constant updating and in touch with the national and state conveners and then issue news, views and other related things to the Movement of
- India team (NAPM magazine), constituents, supporters and media.
- Responsible for publicity leaflets, banners, posters and other such materials as and when required.
- Website and social media regular update and development for visibility to NAPM
- Making features on different issues / struggles and feeding to regional papers / publications.
- Assist in building rapport with key people, politicians, journalists and organisations and setting a channel of communication and easy access.
Desired qualification
- An ideal person must have commitment to agenda of social justice and agreement with the mission of NAPM.
- S/he should have written and spoken fluency in Hindi, English, or any other regional languages, ability to work independently and willing to travel occasionally to attend meetings as and when required.
- She should have some understanding of media, communication, issues of social concern and willing to learn and interact with a wide range of issues and people.
- Knowledge and interest in photography, film making, web communications and social media, design softwares will be extremely helpful.
