International Water Management Institute (IWMI), is a nonprofit scientific research organization, one of the 15 International Institutes under the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), with its world headquarter at Colombo, Sri Lanka. IWMI is engaged in various aspects of water and land management.
Description:
The Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security Research program (CCAFS) of the CGIAR has identified three villages in Vaishali District, Bihar to evaluate interventions which may transform the villages to cope with imminent climate changes. A number of agronomic, water management and policy interventions are being evaluated. The project is now seeking a Research Assistant to be based in Vaishali to support researchers based in New Delhi. The position is for 1 year and can be renewed further based on the performance of the candidate and funding availability.
Qualification & Experience:
- M.Sc. in Agronomy or Social sciences (preferably in human geography or rural development).
- 2-5 years of experience in conducting fieldwork, surveys, and working with rural communities either in research capacity or as a part of any implementing agencies, including NGO.
- Basic computer skills including word-processing, database and spread sheet management.
- Excellent written, oral communication skills and organizational skills
- The ability to work within a team and independently.
- Experience in working with farmers and farming communities.
- Preference for candidate with own transport and fluency in local languages.
Duration:
The position is for 1 year and can be renewed further based on the performance of the candidate and funding availability.
Job description:
- Act as a liaison between IWMI and our field partners IFFCO Foundation
- Establish effective linkages with the local community, Panchayat, and State Agencies responsible for Agriculture, Water Management and Environment.
- Coordinate implementation of a questionnaire survey in 3 villages. The sample size of this questionnaire is approximately 300 respondents. The survey will involve:
- Pre-testing of the questionnaire designed, providing feedback and incorporating changes in questionnaire based on respondent feedback.
- Hire field survey enumerators for training
- Supervise questionnaire survey
- Manage all logistics of the survey
- Coordinate focus group discussions with villagers in Vaishali district
- Coordinate installation of vertical drains in Vaishali District.
- Data collection and maintenance of sensors and data loggers.
- Collect data on technologies being tested and assist farmers in keeping records of inputs applied and operation performed
- Provide logistic supports to the IWMI scientists as and when required.

Remuneration:
Monthly remuneration will be commensurable with successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, and will include a transport allowance, but will not exceed INR 35,000/-
