The award is meant to honour the contributions of individuals, organisations and governments towards promoting conservation and wise use of wetlands

Three Awards will be given in the following categories:

a) The Ramsar Convention Award for Wetland Wise Use
b) The Ramsar Convention Award for Wetland Innovation
c) The Ramsar Convention Award for Young Wetland Champions
