Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE), Bangalore is looking to recruit a Research Assistant as part of the Land, Water and Livelihoods Programme (LWLP). The LWLP, Vembanad/Kuttanad component, seeks to understand interactions between agricultural land use, water resources and livelihood systems; and the implications on environmental change and human well being resulting from changing climate, resource use practices and policies.
Qualifications
Masters degree in environmental sciences or agriculture sciences or social sciences.
Desirable
Candidates with abilities to communicate in Malayalam preferred. Knowledge of environmental realities characterizing the Vembanad/Kuttanad region will help.
Nature of Work
The appointed person will work with and report to a Bangalore based LWLP team. He/she will be required to conduct field work, collect socio-economic and water quality data, and compile data. NGOs, government offices and Panchayath bodies need to be networked with. The RA needs to undertake tasks collectively and independently wherever needed. Additionally field visits of team members need to be coordinated. Monthly visits to ATREE, Bangalore need to be undertaken. While in the field, the RA shall be based at ATREE’s, Community Environment Resource Centre (CERC), Alleppey.
Appointment and Emoluments
The appointment will be on a contractual basis, initially for a period of one year. A longer term appointment is contingent on performance and/or availability of suitable research assignments. Salaries are competitive and will be commensurate with qualifications.
