Description:
The fast growing economy, urban population in India along with increasing wastewater generation gives reason for concern and the need for appropriate water management practices. The sewerage network and the centralised treatment plants often fail to address the needs of the communities in terms of collection, treatment and disposal of domestic wastewater. There is a big gap between the amount of sewage generated and the amount being treated in urban centers.

The decentralised approach to wastewater treatment systems is a growing practice which demonstrates the opportunities for implementing wastewater management in an efficient and cost effective way as well as facilitates wastewater reuse and resource recovery.

CSE, as a part of its activities in the area of urban development on sustainable water management, is organizing a certificate training programme to review the existing wastewater treatment practices and focus on promoting decentralised systems particularly in un-sewered areas that would facilitate recycling and reuse of wastewater.
