The seminar will see experts on Vaishnavite culture discuss the shortcomings pointed out by the Paris-based World Heritage Centre (under UNESCO) in the dossier of Majuli sent to it in January, for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
About the seminar:
The seminar titled “Majuli Cultural Landscape: Heritage Values and Future” will be held at Nedfi auditorium in Guwahati on May 12. The main objective of the seminar was to discuss thoroughly the three technical shortcomings found by the evaluation committee of the Paris-based body.
Conservationist architect S.N. Murthy, whose Hyderabad-based firm, M/s Kshetra, had prepared the dossier on Majuli, will attend the seminar. Professor Dambarudhar Nath, head of the history department, Dibrugarh University, Professor Sanjib Barkakoty of Nagaon College and Surajit Jaradhara, who were involved in preparing the dossier of the island for the first time in 2004, will participate in the seminar.
