About the course
The M.Sc. course in Wildlife Science is a flagship course of the Institute and is widely acclaimed both nationally and internationally. The course aims to impart theoretical knowledge, analytical skills and field techniques in Wildlife Science. Students of high calibre and motivation are selected through a National Entrance Test (NET) for this residential course.
The course is intricately structured for ensuring the right amalgamation of theory and field training involving visits to Protected Areas and other sites of conservation importance across the country
Number of seats
The total intake for the course is 14 students (12 Indian candidates and 2 foreign nationals).
Eligibility
1) Bachelor's degree in Sciences, Medical sciences, Engineering, Veterinary Science, Agriculture, Pharmacy, Social science, Computer Science and Computer Applications or degrees recognized as equivalent thereof (should have studied Science stream at Higher Secondary Education Board or other equivalent board).
2) Minimum of 15 years of formal education (either 10+2+3 or 11+2+2).
3) Minimum of 55% aggregate marks in Bachelor's degree.
Age limit
The age limit is 25 years as on March 11, 2013 with relaxation of 5 years for reserved candidates and for those candidates who are working in Forest and Wildlife Departments it is 35 years as on March 11, 2013.
Selection process
Eligible candidates will be required to appear for a written NET in any one of the centres (Bengaluru, Dehra Dun, Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi and Guwahati) which is nearest to his/her permanent residence.
The NET will be for 2.5 hours.
Shortlisted meritorious candidates based on NET screening will be called to take a Personality and Aptitude Test (PAT) at Dehra Dun. Final selection to the course will be made on the basis of combined merit of 50% marks obtained in the Bachelor's degree examination and 50% of PAT.
Course fee
The fee structure for the entire course is as follows:
Indian candidates - Rs. 2,60,000
SAARC nationals - US $ 11,000
Other nationals - US $ 12,000
Scholarships
The Institute provides full scholarship amounting to Rs 2.6 lacs to eight Indian students based on their selection merit through the NET & PAT that covers entire course fee, hostel accommodation and a monthly stipend.
Important dates
- The last date for receiving application is 11th March, 2013
- The last date for receiving applications online is 4th March, 2013
- The NET is likely to be held on Sunday, 21st April 2013.
- The Personality and Aptitude Test is likely to be held at Dehra Dun in mid May, 2013.
