About the Programme:
CMS VATAVARAN 2015 will be an amalgamation of celebration and discourse. It will seek to mark the interconnectedness of water and life and address the often less regarded importance of water bodies. It will seek to raise concern over the present situation of rivers, lakes and ground water in the context of the existence of life and ecosystems of Earth.
About the media workshop- 'Water in the newsroom'
Floods, droughts, monsoon, tanker mafias, dams, rivers, water disputes – the subject of water is always in news in some form or the other. It is one issue that has all the ingredients of headline news – a heady mix of environment, science, technology, climate change, crime, diplomacy, commerce and above all, life and people. Yet newsrooms tend to take it seriously only when crises like floods or water shortage in cities occur. How can water journalists hone their reporting skills? How can they pitch their story ideas and compete with other news ranging from crime to cricket? In what ways new digital sharing and data journalism techniques be applied to water reporting? Join the boot camp on “water in newsroom”, get an overview of the ‘water beat’ from leading experts, learn new techniques and share your experience with peers.
