About CEPT University and PAS
CEPT University at Ahmedabad is a premier institution in India for Architecture and Planning education. We are currently pursuing a major 5-year research project on "Performance Assessment System for Urban Water and Sanitation", funded by the Gates Foundation (more information on the project can be found at http://www.pas.org.in).
Objective
As a part of the project, we have planned a workshop on Innovations for Scaling up to Citywide Sanitation during October 16-17, 2012 in Ahmedabad. The focus of this workshop is on looking at municipal level sanitation options for medium and small towns in India. (population 200,000 and less).
- The proposed workshop intends to review experiences from India and other countries that have implemented alternatives to conventional sewerage systems and developed solutions for effective sanitation management.
- The workshop also intends reviewing replication and adaptation of these experiences. It aims to bridge the gap between science and practical application and generate useful insights for appropriate approached to achieve universal sanitation and making cities open defecation free.
- The focus of the discussion will be on technology and governance related questions that affect scaling-up of innovative technology to city scale and use of appropriate low cost networks and treatments that can be adopted by small and medium towns.
