BushProof training : Water & sanitation for development and emergencies, 30 May 2009, Singapore

Forwarded to the Portal by: Eric Fewster, BushProof Image and Content Courtesy: BushProof BushProof will be running two training courses in Water & Sanitation for Development and Emergencies during the first half of 2009. The 2-week BushProof training covers many aspects of water & sanitation for both development & emergencies. It is an intense no-nonsense training that focuses heavily on practical sessions. Our aim is to transfer as much practical and theoretical knowledge as possible in the time available so that participants can return with know-how that they can apply in their own situations. It is designed for those that need more technical input, as well as those in management who manage watsan projects but lack the basic technical background. The planned dates are: Singapore 18 , 30 May 2009 (hosted by the World Toilet Organization) & Madagascar 15 , 27 June 2009 Practical sessions While several theoretical courses are available, practical hands-on field experience is difficult to obtain. The BushProof training therefore focuses heavily on practical sessions, which include the following (varies slightly according to training location): * Manual drilling * Jetting * Sieve analysis * Measuring elevation * Handpump operation * Chlorine and alum jar tests * Hand dug well construction * Biosand filter construction * Latrine slab construction (normal, dome) * Making an emergency latrine shelter * Measuring water flow in pipes due to gravity and from pump * Water testing (chemical, physical, bacteriological) Because of the number of practical sessions, participants tend to learn most if they get stuck in and get their hands dirty! To give you a flavour of the training, we have some video clips and photos from the recent training in September in Madagascar available at: http://bushproof.biosandfilter.org/index.php?id=171 Theoretical sessions In addition to the practical sessions, the course will provide a broad overview of the theoretical aspects of water and sanitation projects. Theoretical issues are linked to real life experiences of the facilitators throughout the course. Teacher-student ratio We will never have more than 15 participants per course, and therefore have a high teacher-student ratio, which we find is essential to allow individual feedback and tuition. Language:The course will be in English. Course fees & duration The cost of the 13 day course covers all tuition, handouts, resource CDs, lunch, coffee breaks, field trips & practicals. Prices depend on when you book: Early bird: 2,400 Euro - application received more than 2 months prior to course Standard: 2,500 Euro - application received between 2 weeks and 2 months prior to course Late snail: 2,600 Euro , application received less than 2 weeks before the course The course fee does not include domestic & international airfares, travel or medical insurance, visa, accommodation, breakfast / evening meal and taxi cost from the accommodation to the training centre every day.
