Description:
Every three years since 1997, the World Water Forum mobilises creativity, innovation, competence and know-how in favour of water. It gathers all stakeholders around today’s local, regional and global issues that cannot be undertaken without all stakeholders into a common framework of goals and concrete targets to reach.

The goal of the 6th World Water Forum is to tackle the challenges our world is facing and to bring water high on all political agendas. There will be no sustainable development while the water issues remain unsolved. Everywhere on the planet, for all and everyone, the Right to Water (recognised by 189 states at the UN one year ago) must be guaranteed and implemented.

When France and Marseille presented its candidature for the 6th World Water Forum, it clearly stated its ambition of going down in history as the Forum that will bring solutions to water, based on openness and exchange. Indeed, as stated by the World Water Council President “It is paramount that we satisfy the essential needs of billions of children, men and women for whom we must guarantee food, health, education and, first and foremost, energy and water so that they can finally pull themselves out of poverty.”

The candidature also recognized that water issues are increasingly political in nature and require an adapted approach to make further progress at the global, regional, national and local levels. As such, a Ministerial process, a Parliamentarian Process and a Local Authorities process will be designed to promote solutions for water at every level.

Likewise, solutions must stretch across the globe. Therefore, preparatory work will be organised through four continental processes in Africa, the Americas, Asia-Pacific and Europe. Cross-continental work may also be carried out to address specific needs in other sub-regions through an cooperative approach.
