By using dried open wells, we can enrich the Underground water quickly.
In the good old days, open wells used to help the common man in fetching water for all purposes and specially the drinking water. Invasion of pump-sets and specially the deep bore wells have pulled the underground water indiscriminately. Therefore, the water table level of the underground water is continuously going down at a very alarming rate. This fall in the underground water table level has made many a very big and useful water wells dry up. Now they are not in use as people do depend on alternative source of water like bore well water or the tap water drawn from far off river water.During rainy season, rain hits and the water starts running to the down side of the village/ town. It will be possible for the people of the village/town to enrich the underground water by using the dried wells. Water which otherwise is going out of the respective place is made to run near the dried well and get stored in a tank for a short period. The silt of the water is to be made to settle down there. Cleaner water with lesser silt is to be made to enter the open well. Rain water so diverted and made to reach the well will start recharging the ground at that deep level of the ground. All most all the water pockets at that deep underground level are dried by the forceful pulling of the water by the bore-well motors. Therefore, there will be high absorbing capacity of rain water that reaches the bottom of the well. Even if the water well is filled up to of its depth, then also, the well will help to enrich the water pockets at each level at the
underground. By this process, a lot of water is made to reach the deep level of ground with rain water. Such enrichment of water can be drawn by the people by using the bore well. As the good quality rain water is made to reach the underground water pockets, quality of water at each such pocket will improve. Soft water will help the people to have better health and to derive better level of satisfaction.
Even the dried up bore wells can be used to enrich the water pockets deep under ground in a much higher speed by adopting a plan similar to the one as stated above. A water storage tank [made of brick and cement] is to be constructed around the dried bore well. Rain ware is to be made to reach this water storage tank. Rain water which reaches this tank will reach the settle there for few minutes and will slowly move through the pipe of the dried bore –well to reach deep in to the earth. By this process also, a lot of rain water/soft water is made to reach the deeper part of the earth. By this practice also, a lot of benefits can be derived some of which are as under.
- Better utilization of rain water.
- Enrichment of underground water by adopting this method will speedup the process of recharging of water at very deep level of earth [which otherwise needs a very long period of time to get recharged.
- As more of fresh/soft water is made to reach deep in to the earth, the quality of water from the bore wells will improve which will give multiple benefits to the users.
- Trees get good amount of water from such underground water and the yield of the trees will be higher.
- Pumping of water from bore wells will be easier as the water will be available at a good level itself. So, a lot of electricity can be saved.
- By enriching rain water deep in to the earth, many a wells/bore-wells which otherwise would have been dried up will not dry up. Thereby, the valuable investment of money for the infrastructure can be better used and wastage of funds can be saved.
- Money so saved can be used for some other good purposes.
Here is my wish and dream.
- Open wells were feeding water to the public till recent. They are dried up now. Let us give them a new assignment of enriching the rain water deep in to the earth. By this act, let the water table in and around the well improve drastically.
- Let the people draw the quality water from the bore wells during summer.
- This concept is not expencive. It is to be understood and implemented. Let the PUBLIC AT LARGE, NGO’s, semi Govt/Govt. agencies look in to this concept and popularize it for the benefit of every one.
