Forum for Policy Dialogue on Water Conflicts (Forum) in India, in collaboration with the Chalakudi Puzha Samrakshan Samiti and Kerala State Resource Centre of the Forum, is organizing a Training Programme on Understanding and Resolving Water Conflicts from 5 to 8 April 2010 in Kerala (the exact location in Kerala would be announced later).
The Forum is a collaborative initiative of more than fifty organisations and individuals and is presently supported by Arghyam, Bangalore. You could log on to http://conflicts.indiawaterportal.org for further details.
This training programme is aimed at introducing participants to the basic concepts, debates, theoretical and analytical approaches and emerging issues related to water conflicts and their resolution in India.
The training programme will include the following components:
- Understanding water
- Normative concerns around water
- Legal and institutional issues related to water
- Understanding water conflicts in India
- Understanding conflict processes around water
- Stakeholder processes and resolution of conflicts around water
The training programme will involve lectures, group discussions, assignments, case studies and so on.
The programme would be coordinated by Prof. S. Janakarajan, Madras Institute of Development Studies (MIDS), Chennai.
Participants
The programme is designed for researchers, NGO personnel and activists working on issues related to water.
Programme dates, Logistics and Costs
The programme would be held from 5th through 8th April 2010. This is a residential training programme and stay arrangements of the participants would be made at the venue itself. Local hospitality will be provided by the Forum. Participants are expected to cover their travel costs because of resource constraints. However, the Forum can provide limited travel support to a few of the deserving candidates, especially to activists from people’s movements.
