Training module at block level

This training module deals with water quality monitoring and surveillance at block level by the Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission. With this objective it is proposed to create massive awareness and provide training on water quality for all people at district, block and panchayat/village levels. A two-tier system should be followed for testing practices which will be followed in the district level laboratories and by field testing at community level.

The data generated should be made available to all users to take remedial and preventive measures to provide safe and protected water for promoting the public health. Adequate importance has also been emphasized on sanitary practices as it can contribute microbial diseases.

The strategies revolved around the following three distinct but interrelated issues -

  • Accelerating the coverage of remaining uncovered habitations with safe drinking water systems.
  • To promote sustainability of safe drinking water systems.
  • To institutionalise water quality monitoring and surveillance systems.

Training module at panchayat/village level

This training module deals with water quality monitoring and surveillance at village and panchayat level by the Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission. The department of drinking water supply in association with different state governments has taken up the sector reform programme wherein special thrust is being given on community based management programme on rural water supply. Such thrust includes capacity building and training at different levels from policy makers, administrators, implementers, operators, caretakers and community as a whole.

The training module has been prepared for sensitizing the community on water quality monitoring and surveillance. Capacity and infrastructure is being built at village level with participation of community leaders, panchayat members, primary teachers, health workers, village caretakers, WATSAN committee members etc.

Training module at district and state level

This training module deals with water quality monitoring and surveillance at state and district level by the Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission. The department of drinking water supply in association with different state governments has taken up the sector reform programme wherein special thrust is being given on community based management programme on rural water supply. Such thrust includes capacity building and training at different levels from policy makers, administrators, implementers, operators, caretakers and community as a whole.

The training module has been prepared for sensitizing policy makers and implementers and also to develop manpower for training at the block level on water quality monitoring and surveillance. The target group at state and district level training programme would be public health engineering and health department functionaries, technocards and scientists of different institutions, social scientists, educationists and teachers, representative from resourceful NGOs and other concerned personnel dealing with issues relating to rural water supply. A resource pool of manpower in each district is to be created.
