A report on the block level water policy workshops organised in Jalore, Rajasthan in November 2011

The DWSC (District Water and Sanitation committee) Jalore, Rajasthan organized a one day workshop in six blocks of the district.

Six out of the eight blocks of the district were covered in this programme. The blocks covered were:

1. Jaswantpura
2. Ahore
3. Sayla
4. Raniwara
5. Chitlwana
6. Jalore

The workshops were organized in the last week of November. The workshops were funded by the European Commission through the Rajasthan State Water Sanitaion Support Organization and the Community Capacity Development Unit, Jaipur. At the district level, these workshops were conducted by the Consultant of WSSO at district level in DWSC.


Thre are three consultants at the district level under the National Rural Drinking Water Program (NRDWP)  one is Consultant, IEC and Equity, Mr. Dharmendra Dubey; second, Mr Vikram Singh Jhala, Consultant, HRD and Mr. Deepak Trivedi, Consultant, MIS.

The workshops saw more than 60 active participants. The profile of participants include the Pradhan at the  block level, BDO, SDM, Sarpanch of Gram panchyat, Secretary of GP, Panchayat Sameeti, Elected Members, Zilaparished Members and the officers of PHED, water resource, Education, ground water department.

Main points discussed in the workshops were:
1.     Community Participation in Water Policies
2.     Main Features of the State Water Policy
3.     Rain Water Harvesting
4.     Recharge of Ground Water
5.     Sustainability of water resource 
6.     Role of VWSC (Village Water and Sanitation Committee) for implementing of State Water Policy
7.     Convergence among the department and PRI at village, block and district level
