  • India will have water crises by 2030
     According to International Water Management Institute (IWMI), India will face a water scarcity due to global warming and population explosion.

  • CCEA clears Rs. 7000 crore projects to clean Ganga
    The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved a Rs. 7,000 crore project to clean the river Ganga. It will be implemented by the National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA). The Centre's share will be Rs. 5,100 crore and that of the governments of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal Rs. 1,900 crore.

  • Government to enact & regulate drinking water standards
    The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, under the Ministry of Rural Development, has found the current legal environment for enforcing and regulating drinking water standards very weak in the country as they focus on issues related to large water bodies and their pollution. Moreover, the prevailing drinking water quality standards are recommendatory in nature and not enforceable.

  • Madhya Pradesh: Rs 5000 crore water pipeline project sanctioned
    To overcome chronic water shortage, the state government has charted out an ambitious project costing Rs 5,000 crore to supply water from Narmada river to the districts of Ujjain, Shajapur and Dewas. The work would get underway in 2014.
