How have Indias flagship development programmes fared Budget briefs on the TSC JNNURM and MGNREGS by the Accountability Initiative

Government of India’s development programmes are aimed to bring in much required inclusive development and pave a way towards an equitable and socially just society. With this motive the Centre had introduced several programmes in social sectors and allocated a fixed amount for achieving the set goals.

An analysis on the performance of the programmes shows how far the targets have been achieved, the shortcomings and the steps that are to be taken to strengthen the programmes.

The Accountability Initiative of Centre for Policy Research carries out research that aims to improve the quality of India’s public services by promoting informed and accountable governance.

This collection by the initiative is on the budget briefs of 2012-13, summarizes and analyzes the trends in the way in which the government has spent its money for its three flagship programmes namely - Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC), Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). The briefs are accompanied by visual interpretations of the data.

The brief on Total Sanitation Campaign, which come under the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation analyses the programme with a focus on the following parameters:

The brief on Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, which comes under the Ministry of Urban Development analyses the programme with a focus on the parameters:
