Government of India's national action plan on climate change (NAPCC)

This would lead to a drastic increase in GHG emissions. There is the need to make a choice for a low-carbon path, even if there is no mandated reduction in GHG emissions.

Finally, in July 2008, the Government of India has come out with a National Action Plan on Climate Change the NAPCC. This will all take time to translate into policy decisions and ground level action.

The Government of India - NAPCC

The NAPCC has identified a strategy to deal with climate change through Eight National Missions:

  •  National Solar Mission
  •  National Mission for Enhanced Energy Efficiency
  •  National Mission on Sustainable Habitat
  •  National Water Mission
  •  National Mission for Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem
  •  National Mission for a "Green India"
  •  National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture
  •  National Mission on Strategic Knowledge for Climate Change

The overall thrust and direction to this is currently with the PMO's Office (the office of the Prime Minister himself).
