The Lost lakes of Bangalore contest elicited 23 student category and 15 general category videos, covering 32 lakes of the city.
The awards ceremony was well attended by students, participants and several citizens of Bangalore. Ms. Rohini Nilekani, Chairperson, Arghyamreinvigorated the youth to participate in redefining our lifestyles in order to reach sustainable consumption patterns.
Rohan D'Souza, a lake expert working with ATREE, Bangalore suggested that the most sustainable way of protecting and restoring any lake is for communities around the lake to organize themselves for its protection. These communities have the largest stake in the quality of the lake and its survival, so those who are interested to work for the restoration of lakes should link up with these communities and jointly find the best solutions.
"The Lost Lakes of Bangalore" is a video project to document Bangalore’s many tanks and lakes which have vanished with unplanned urbanization and growth. As part of this project India Water Portal organised a contest to document this aspect of Bangalore's history
